Hello, new friends. I'm Loryn. I live in Brooklyn, where I work as a high school English teacher and dean. I'm lucky in my job, because I teach semester electives: one in Poetry and the second (alternating) in Nonfiction Writing/Literary Memoir, all topics that I love to think and talk about. At the same time, my job is all consuming, and as a writer, I often curse it. Neither here nor there. More random facts: I am about to turn 35; I have one fiance and one cat beast at home; I love hockey, the word "donnybrook," succulents, and lakes; I have no kid beasts, but do enjoy two nieces and one very new, very tiny nephew. Very much looking forward to this class and to knowing all of you.

Great to meet you too. After being a student with no work-a-day responsibilities (or few) for a couple of years, I've discovered what a challenge it is to seriously write and hold down a "real job".
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that this class will jumpstart my reading writing habits.in my new life.
My favorite words of late are "eigenlicht", "cribellate", "pauldron", and as of today "lunula". Those are the real ones. I often make up words like "foxmews", "verdigrizzled", and "childsleep".
Thanks, Leslie. Yeah, my sister in law is just about to graduate from her MFA program, and while I hate to influence her too much, I keep telling her to take a job to pay the bills and keep writing as the career. It's too easy to let go…
DeleteI like your have words. We are opposites, in some ways. I tend to gravitate towards consonants. I like knees, and eczema, and tin foil. CRUNCH. :)

ReplyDeleteHi Loryn: I ;love succulents and lakes too, and I really like the sound of those words in the same sentence. And have a 20-yr-old cat. I'm retired and still struggle with not having time to write--it always seems to get squeezed out by other things. But deadlines motivate me, so I am hoping that the weekly assignments here will help!
