Captive at work

. . . . so this response will be very short. In all honesty, I was able to only skim this, as I left this reading for last and I must head home soon (not having internet access at home except via my not-so-convenient-to-type-lengthy-replies-on phone). I was fortunate enough to study with A. Van Jordan at Michigan who teaches a class called the "Historical Hinge" and uses texts such as Ellen Bryant Voigt's "Kyrie", Martha Collins' "Blue Front", and Tyehimba Jess' "Leadbelly".

See my class project and click on the Blogroll to see the other group projects.

Sherman Alexie's "Captivity" strikes me as very similar historical narrative. Perhaps more imagined than the previously mentioned books, perhaps not. I will try to respond more after I've gone home and let my poor old dog out. I'll also try to respond to others' posts on the readings.

Petunia patiently waiting for me to come home
