I enjoyed the readings, they were all informative in terms of content and structure.
Bear Stories -- interesting. I liked the idea of breaking the piece up into a vignette style, but as I am a stickler for visual presentation, I didn't like the two larger first person pieces at the end. It pointed the focus too squarely on the "I" and made it less stories about bears than 'my' stories about bears. Just a personal preference.
Disambiguation -- I remember reading this on "The Rumpus" when it was first published. Very powerful. She does a brilliant job of painting around the edges of her emotions, circling around them until the final "I was angry. I was angry." This is an amazing account of a female experience, that I related to because of her controlled language. And because of her controlled language, the emotion behind the entire experience pushes up through the page.
The Captive -- loved the use of form here. Very very poetic and made me think of a pantoum (where the second and fourth line in the quatrain become the first and third line of the next quatrain). I loved the gentle repetition and the fancydancing and the consistent beat of the language.
Binary -- I really liked the use of the form here as well. The separation of each piece into it's own binary heading kept the either/or dichotomy very present for me. The subject matter was well suited for the presentation and while I felt at arms length emotionally from the content, I was immersed in it's immediacy. Each section felt tangible and controlled.
