WENDY! You got some 'splainin to do!

The Explanation doesn't do much of that, does it? I have to say that this piece didn't resonate with me. It was too dystopian, too 1984 (anyone else feel REALLY old when they make comments like that because they read the novel well before that date?). I probably wouldn't have finished it had it not been assigned. I didn't mind the Q&A format — but I was having a difficult time following the role that the Questioner held. Was s/he (they?) a government psychiatrist, personal therapist, college researcher?

One of the things I love about the lyric essay is that it allows for jumps and starts, but without some semblance of continuity, it falls apart for me. Yes, there are commonalities and it is somewhat braided, but the format to me is the only thing that is really holding it all together. And it needs more. I feel a bit like I'm in the brain of a mad(wo)man or that someone with multiple personalities is having a conversation between their two selves and it's very off-putting. Of course, that could be the very intent of the piece.

It's also not terribly interesting to me. I can imagine other writers I know, however, being intrigued by it, or even writing similar pieces.
